In the 30-year tradition of The Daegu Ceramist Association, we overcame the COVID-19 Pandemic together.

Under the theme of 'Together', a festival of harmony that overcomes the COVID-19 crisis and shares the true beauty of pottery works in the 30-year tradition of the Daegu Ceramist Association have been held in Daegu.

The Daegu Ceramist Association(Chairman: Kang Suck-soon) is held at the Daebaek Plaza Gallery A Hall (12F) from September 7th(Tuesday) to September 12th(Sunday) in 2021 under the theme of 'Together' with 46 members including Kang Suck-soon, Kim Pan-jun, Kim Seong-rim, Kim Soon-hee, Lily (Lee Eun-jung) and Kim Hyo-rin participating.

This exhibition is showed about 50 works prepared by local university ceramic professors, full-time ceramicists, ceramic research institutes. Ceramic works are focusing on the formative beauty and practicality of ceramic crafts in daily life.

At the opening ceremony, Chairman Kang Suck-soon said, "I think our ceramists common personality is mild, subtle and persistence. If these ceramists are 'together' I think they will be able to overcome difficult times like these days, the COVID-19 by helping each other. Furthermore I think the power to lead the continuous development of Daegu ceramic lies in 'together.' - Let's move on.- I hope this exhibition will be a little bit of a boost to our daily life, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19. And I hope it will be the Daegu Ceramist Association that develops into better work in 2022" she said.

Lee Jeom-chan, chairman of the Daegu Art Association, said "Through this exhibition I hope to re-examine the future-oriented and creative work activities of potters representing Daegu and Gyeongbuk and contribute to the development of local ceramic culture by sharing the ceramists' originality, diversity and motivation. I hope that it will be a venue for mutual communication through exhibitions of pottery works that look at tradition and modernity with local residents." He gave a congratulatory speech.

From this regular exhibition, the Namjeong Award (Advisor Kim Young-tae's pen name), Youth Ceramicist Award and Achievement Award were newly established to encourage creative activities. Kim Sun won the Namjeong Award and Kim Su-hyun and Kim Hyo-rin won the Youth Ceramicist Award. Former Chairman Yang Dong-youb former Vice Chairman Kim Pan-jun, Kang Sung-ae former Secretary-General Yang Kyoung-soon, and former Deputy Secretary-General Yeo Yoon-ji won the Achievement Award.

Founded in 1981, the Hyundai Pottery Donginjeon was joined by the others group in Daegu in 1987 and the scale was expanded to the current the Daegu Ceramist Association. Currently the Daegu Ceramist Association, which operates with more than 80 members is the largest pottery organization representing Daegu and consists of a group of artists as thick as the long tradition. Following this regular exhibition the Daegu Ceramist Association plans to hold an exhibition of new members in October and plans to take the lead in the development of local ceramic crafts through activities to strengthen, the tradition and solidarity of the Daegu Ceramist Association. In addition they have participated in various local cultural festivals such as the Bongsan Cultural Festival and have continued their activities to expand the base of ceramic crafts. It provides opportunities to more easily access ceramic crafts such as pottery making, spinning wheel experience and hand painting. And they are also focusing on expanding the base of modern pottery.
